One of the most important things a college student can do is volunteer. As a college student, I understand the demands of a busy life. From exams, to extracurricular activities, it can a lot to juggle, but I always try and make an effort to volunteer. Volunteering not only gives back to the community, but also can make you a more well rounded student. Here are my tips on volunteering for college students.
Find Your Passion
Before you can start volunteering it is important to find what you are passionate in. If you love animals, why not spend a few hours at your local SPCA? If you like working with children, why not volunteer at after school programs and help kids with their homework. Finding your passion, is all about figuring out what you enjoy and discovering your skills. If you are a singer, you could give vocal lessons to those who have a passion for singing. Use your skills and talents to help others.
Do Your Research
Research what organizations that you might like to volunteer for. Boys and Girls club is a place that I would often go to as a child and now I like to volunteer my time there. When researching different organization, find out what their mission is , how their helping others and how volunteers can get involved.
Create A Schedule
To help make time for volunteering, it is important to make a schedule. What I like to do is use a calendar and writer down my weekly schedule. I write down when I go to school, do homework, work and any other weekly responsibilities. Then in places where I have free time, I use that time for volunteering. To balance everything, It takes organization and commitment. If you can only volunteer for an hour or two each week, that's ok.
Holidays Are A Great Time Volunteer
The Holiday season is when people spend time their families, enjoy presents and delicious food. But for many families going through hard times, the holidays can a be a less than joyful time. The holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas is great time to help those who are less fortunate by helping at soup kitchens, homeless shelters and shelters for women.
This gives you an opportunity to help make someone's holiday special.
Volunteering is one the most rewarding things that a person can do. Not only are helping others but you're helping make your community a better place.
